Mission:
Lost Out Here in the Stars
Location: Bridge
Petty Officer James Hunt stepped out of his quarters aboard the Aries class starship making his way towards the turbolift. Most who served on this small craft lived on the Starbase, but in all honesty he enjoyed being on the ship that was empty the majority of the time. Entering the turbolift, Hunt requested to be taken to the bridge. Moments later the doors opened as he stepped onto the empty bridge. Smiling to himself, James walked over to the helm station and took a seat. It had been two months since he transferred to the William Dawes from the Santo Domingo. The missions were pretty much routine. Mostly involved delivering something, someone or in some cases even scouting out the area. There was even a search and rescue one time. But nothing too serious.
Tapping the panel, the system came to life as the Petty Officer went through the routine checks. At the moment there were no plans to go anywhere, but honestly he wanted to be sure the ship was ready to go in case something did pop up. The computer was doing its thing as James sat back in his seat. Over the last few days, he had been thinking about his younger brother Betes and their last conversation. Betes was so upset with him for not wanting to fight alongside with him and the Maquis. In his opinion, his brother had thrown away his future to battle against the Cardassians. But his brother was so angry. And James had to admit that he hated the Cardassians just as much. They were born and raised in that camp being tormented and beaten at times. To be honest, he would never believe that the Cardassians were redeemable.
The way James saw things at this point is that they had taken his childhood and he would not allow them to take this moment from him. But he understood completely why his brother made his choices. And now the Maquis were now having to deal with Starfleet as well. A clear no-win situation here for them. Suddenly his thoughts were interrupted.
=Dianostic complete= The computer announced.
The Petty Officer sighed a bit as he stared out the main viewer. William Dawes was currently in spacedock, so the view consisted of shuttles and other starships. In all honest James was bored. It had been about two weeks since they were sent out to do something of real relevance. Which was probably the reason he was thinking about his brother. The Klingon Empire had moved forward with their invasion of Cardassia, which suddenly worked in the favor of the Maquis. Perhaps Betes would survive this whole ordeal after all. As a member of Starfleet, he was expected to be against the invasion. But as a brother and a victim to the Cardassian brutality himself, Hunt very much wanted to see the Cardassians get exactly what they deserved.
Shaking off those thoughts, James decided to get back to work. "Computer run exercise program Alpha Theta Four."
